A reason to choose the bHosted.nl SMTP server instead of your internet provider's is, for example, because you use a laptop with which you are frequently on the go. In such a case, a different mail server would have to be configured each time, since your internet provider's SMTP server does not accept mail if you are not connected to the internet via your internet provider.
At bHosted.nl you have the choice to use your provider's outgoing mail server, or the outgoing mail server of bHosted.nl. We always recommend using the one from bHosted.nl, because a number of security measures are automatically applied.
The bHosted.nl SMTP server is not an open SMTP relay server. Using SMTP Authentication, it is determined whether you are a customer of bHosted.nl and you can send mail from any internet connection. Most mail programs such as Outlook, Mail and Thunderbird support SMTP Authentication.
The settings for the outgoing mail server of bHosted.nl are:
Server: smtp.bhosted.nl
Port: 465
Protocol: SSL
Username: The complete email address
Password: The password associated with the entered email address
An additional advantage of using our outgoing mail server is that all email sent also goes through our virus filters and spam filters. Emails containing a virus are not allowed through.
You obviously don't want emails sent to contain a virus and reach your (potential) customers. Spam, on the other hand, is a different phenomenon. If the spam score is high, the email is quarantined and manually checked by us. "Normal" email is sent immediately.
