Batch SMTP

Using batch SMTP (often abbreviated as bSMTP), it is possible, for example, to have mail first arrive at bHosted.nl and then be forwarded to your own mail server. The advantages of this routing are:

  • Virus scanner
  • Spam filtering
  • Security of your mail server
  • Receiving mail on a port other than port 25

Virus scanner

Since your mail passes through the bHosted.nl mail servers, all your mail is also scanned for viruses. This means that no virus scanner needs to be installed on your own mail server.

Spam filtering

All your mail is also run through the bHosted.nl spam filter with batch SMTP. By default, mail is then marked with [SPAM] in the subject, but on request we can also completely delete mail that is identified as spam.

Security of your mail server

Since your own mail server only needs to be open to the bHosted.nl mail server, you can secure the incoming mail port of your mail server by only opening it to the IP address of bHosted.nl.

Incoming mail on a port other than port 25

There are already several providers that do not allow incoming traffic on port 25 for security reasons. This means that you cannot run your own mail server on your internet connection. This can be solved by using batch SMTP to deliver your mail on a completely different port, such as port 2525. This allows you to bypass the restriction of your internet provider.

Batch SMTP is supported by the email-only package and the various hosting packages. You can set up the settings yourself via the control panel or with the support of the bHosted.nl helpdesk.
